Electrical insulating tapes are very important in the manufacturing processes of electrical components. They ensure both protection and insulation within an Electrical Insulation Systems and must withstand the commonly used resins, varnishes and solvents. A poor selection may affect the component performance or even worse, cause the failure of the electrical component.

When selecting the correct electrotechnical pressure sensitive tape for your specific application, you should look carefully at the electrical, physical, thermal and chemical properties and performance of the product. These tests are performed against the standard test procedures, which have been estabilished by the European body AFERA (Association des Fabricants Européens de Rubans Adhésif). Our customers should complete their own assessment of the product for its intended application under their own conditions.

Construction
Electrotechnical tapes are made up of two main components – backing and adhesive – but may sometimes also have a primer for improved anchorage of the adhesive onto the backing, a release coat for easy, regular and controlled unwinding or a liner for double sided tapes or for die-cuts processes.

Thermal class
The continuous temperature resistance of an electrical pressure sensitive tape depends on the thermal resistance of its two components.

Each product is then classified accordingly to the following table:

Insulation class
Continuous Thermal Resistance
Y 90 ºC
A 105 ºC
B 130 ºC
F 155 ºC
H 180 ºC
C 200 ºC
